| Israeli authorities barred Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Maguire from entering the occupied Palestinian land and detained her at the Ben Gurion airport on Tuesday.
Adala center for human rights, the legal center for Arab minority rights in Israel, said in a press release that the center's lawyer Fatema Al-Ajou was accompanying Maguire at the airport's police station.
Ajou was working to get a judicial order to prevent Maguire's deportation, it said.
The center said that Israel was denying Maguire entry because of her participation in the aid convoy flotilla that tried to break the naval blockade on Gaza in June.
Maguire, along with fellow Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams and founders of the Nobel Women's Initiative, planned to travel to Jerusalem, Haifa, Nazareth, Ramallah, Al-Khalil and Bil'in to learn from and highlight the work of female peace builders. | |
