A Palestinian was killed on Wednesday and three others were injured when Israeli security guarding settlers in the flashpoint neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem opened fire at their car.
Guards opened fire at the car at 5 a.m. as the Palestinians drove through the Wad Hilwa area of Silwan, witnesses told the Wad Hilwa Information Center.
Witnesses identified the man killed as Samer Sarhan, 28. One of the injured was described as in critical condition following the shooting and transferred to the Hadassah Hospital for treatment, witnesses told the center.
There are unconfirmed reports of a second fatal causality in the attack.
Ma'an's correspondent said violent clashes erupted across Silwan following news of Sarhan's death.
Center director Mahmoud Qara’een said Sarhan's body was left for two hours before Israeli Border Guards transferred the corpse to an unknown location.
Israeli police and border guards heavily deployed in Silwan following the shooting, preventing residents from approaching the site of the incident.
